A few projects
Have you ever heard of the knockoffwood blog? This talented lady who loves building furniture gives free plans on TONS of different furniture. I've been wanting to make a few things but wanted to start with something small. Turns out my A-mazing sister has a sweet little 6 month old living with them for a while. Sooo this means her 2 yr old gets bumped from the crib. I thought this was a good chance to test out some woodworking and make a toddler bed. It only took a couple of hours -I'd say that's a pretty easy first project. Here's what I started with.....
Built the headboard first. All the cuts were made with the chop saw except the arch was cut with Ray's scroll saw he had in high school. It was slow going but did the job. You could make it without the arch if you don't have the tools to do it.
And here it is finished...
I left it unpainted so Robin can choose what finish she wants but also because I was so anxious to send it up to her the next morning I didn't have time. Word is little Jacen hasn't been too thrilled about being booted from the crib so I'm not sure he's slept in it yet but Jack did a few weeks later when we went up for a visit, more on that in the next post.
I got to help Lonnie a bit with her fabulous dance recital last month. One of the fun projects was making tutus for one of the classes. Aren't the colors pretty? There are a lot of good tutu tutorials out there, I made them like this one HERE . (I did find that it made a difference whether I used walmart brand elastic or the better stuff from JoAnns) Her recital told a great story about the journey through life, it was touching, colorful, exciting, and just showed what an amazing dance teacher she is and what a great academy she runs. I wish I had pictures of all the costumes. We loved watching it, it was truly a great show anyone would love.

Krissy, you are one talented girl! I always love to see what you are going to bust out next and I'm always amazed!
That's a pretty impressive bed Krissy! Nice job!
Great job on the bed. The tutu's are awesome too. Looking forward to seeing more!
Krissy... I LOVE IT!!!! You did a fabulous job on that bed. I saw that website once...but I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to try it out myself. Infact, I just cut my finger bad in the kitchen, I can't even imagine my luck with power tools!!! You are SO talented!
Krissy that bed is amazing. I can't believe I missed that blog....somehow???? now I'm all caught up. I seriously can't....well can, believe you made that, it's so nice. My friend in Okotoks actually goes to that ladies site all the time. She made all her own book shelves for her office and they look (high quality)....pottery barn stuff. I don't think I could do it, my friend loved doing it and was always looking for a new thing to build. You guys would get along great! Keep those projects comin!
